What is surgery insurance?

Creating a safe and reassuring environment for patients and staff alike is the primary goal of any surgery; insurance allows you to focus on the day-to-day running of your SME, safe in the knowledge that your investments are covered and that your reputation is protected.

Due to the unique nature of a surgery or clinic environment, clinic insurance must be tailored to meet your exact requirements, providing coverage for both the premises and contents, as well as personal coverage such as personal liability, public liability, and employer's liability insurance.

Why do you need clinic and surgery insurance?

Whether you run a country veterinary practice or a GP’s surgery in the middle of a busy urban area, clinic and surgery insurance delivers peace of mind to both you and your patients. For example, if an animal bites a client in a vet's waiting room on your premises, or their property is damaged, Public Liability can protect against the financial impact of a compensation claim. If you employ staff - even part-time or family members - to help you run your practice, you are legally required to have Employer's Liability Insurance to stay on the right side of the law. Without the right clinic insurance, your business cannot function properly.

Who benefits from clinic and surgery insurance?

Any clinic or surgery can benefit from insurance cover. This includes doctors and GPs, dentists, beauty clinics (including those offering specialist treatments such as weight loss), cosmetic surgery clinics, and private medical practices.

What’s covered?

Surgery and clinic insurance portfolios can cover a wide range of aspects, including:

  • Buildings and contents cover
  • Business interruption cover
  • Public and employers' liability cover
  • Index-linked buildings and contents sums insured
  • Tenant's liability for damage to buildings following theft and damage to underground services
  • Contents section extends to cover machinery, fixtures, fittings and documents whilst temporarily removed from premises
  • Business interruption automatically includes denial of access, failure of public utilities, damage to underground services and closure of premises due to poisoning, murder, suicide or disease.

With Park Insurance, you also receive up to 25% No Claims Discounts and the chance to include other insurance in your package, such as specialist vehicle insurance. Please note that conditions apply to the features and benefits advertised.

How much does surgery insurance cost?

Your clinic insurance is an integral part of your business, offering you peace of mind as well as financial protection from legal costs and claims. You can spend as little or as much as your budget allows, but the question really is, how much could not having surgery insurance potentially cost you?

FAQs

How much cover do you need?

Our recommendation is to take out the best clinic insurance cover you can afford. Your broker will work with you to determine the appropriate level of cover for your business.

What does your contents insurance cover?

Contents insurance covers the contents of the building. As clinics and surgeries often have equipment that is not typically covered by standard contents insurance, specialist clinic contents insurance is necessary to cover the cost of medical equipment, for example.

Is surgery insurance a legal requirement?

The only legal requirement is Employer's Liability insurance if you employ staff, whether full-time or part-time. However, if you're taking out financial loans to expand a practice, your lender may require you to have a comprehensive insurance policy before they will agree to a loan.
